Saturday, May 3, 2008- We're trying another day! Come help prep and plant the vegetable garden. Arrive by 9am to help de-weed the garden, layout and check the soaker hoses, plant seeds and plants, etc. Bring any vegetable seedlings you have grown that you can spare! Many hands make light work with this project and your bounteous production of vegetables goes to a great community effort-Helping Hands!
Mickey Gazaway would like your herbs that need a new home for the herb garden. Drop them off at the Extension office ASAP!
Also, please contact the Extension office if you can help construct rainbarrels! We need a group effort to get this year's fundraiser off the ground. Many people are inquiring, so we need a workforce.

Friday afternoon thoughts...
Thanks so much to those who donated hostas for Mrs. Duckworth. She was tickled pink to get them so quickly. She feels very warmly about your group.
Holly Thornton has posted this month's homeowner plant pathology lab report. She highlight turf diseases, which may not excite you, but really does garner a lot of questions at the office!
Todd Hurt from the Center for Urban Ag has issued the invitation for Master Gardeners to join eXtension online: https://people.extension.org/. You can create a login and please register your affiliation with UGA. By becoming a member of this group, you'll have access to research based publications, online trainings and other interactive features that interest you and relate to Extension nationally.
The Paulding Vine will be emailed to you soon.
In the meantime have you checked Paulding County's Extension News and Events webpage lately? Do you know what's happening? Keep posted on the webpage!
Finally, I'm wondering how you feel about this blog...Is this a good way to communicate? Do you prefer some other format (back to the flood of emails)? You can post a comment about this here on the blog.
Upcoming volunteer opportunity:
Mickey Gazaway will be working in the herb garden on Thursday morning, April 24th. She could use your assistance to make quick work of it.
Look forward to seeing you soon,
MC

Happy Master Gardener Day!
Happy Master Gardener Day! I have a seedstarting tray for each of you. Please come by and pick one up! Bernard King from Timber Ridge Girls Scout Camp donated enough for each of you to have one and some for our school programs. He donated some to surrounding County MG programs as well. He asks nothing in return, but wanted you all to have for your work, but if you start vegetable seeds in them, we would love to have your extras for the office demonstation vegetable garden.
UPDATE ON OUTDOOR WATERING!!!! Restrictions have changed, so take a look for more information. Paulding is more similar to the State Level 4 restrictions, but there are still some variations in our exemptions.
Our office has been assigned some help through community service and currently we have someone working outdoors on chores around the building. The vegetable and herb gardens have been tilled and weeding is being done. On the list to be done: general cleaning up, removal of the weedy mulch pile on the side of the building, etc. If you have requests for chores that need to be done around the Extension office grounds, please send them to me ASAP.
Don't forget that next Thursday, March 20th, is the Get Watersmart! Lunch and Learn. If you plan to attend please email Dara or call the office to reserve your spot (if you haven't done so already).
Upcoming Opportunities
Susan Breen is still looking for Advisory Board members to help coordinate the Dallas Farmer's Market. If you are interested you can contact Susan directly or let me know and I'll get her your contact information.
Interested in helping plan a "Natural Resources Festival" for a 4th and 5th graders? Contact Mary Carol to learn more!
Vegetable Garden Assistance-Betty is on the mend, but she will need some folks to plant the vegetable garden. "Safe to plant" date is April 15th-Pay your taxes, then plant your tomatoes! Who will organize the planting date/planting activities? Do you need assistance in the form of community service?

Meeting on Thursday, February 28th-10am Paulding County Library
Hope to see you on Thursday at our monthly meeting! You'll be hearing from Ginger Watson about Landmark Trees in our Community! You helped with an excellent Arbor Day Celebration on February 15th, organized by Ginger with the City of Dallas.
Holly Thornton has posted February's homeowner Plant Pathology lab report. Rust diseases are highlighted.
Saturday is 4-H Cloverleaf Project Achievement. If you have a little time Saturday morning, we could still use judges for this activity at Herschel Jones Middle School at 9:45am. Please contact Ms. Grace at our office if you can help - uge2223@uga.edu.
The phones rang off the hook yesterday! Winter weeds, people who want to propagate moss, questions about pruning, and wine grapes and such!
Check out this update on the outdoor water restrictions from the County Commission. Still no watering of vegetable gardens so we need to start thinking about our strategy for spring.
I hope to see you soon!

Scales, termites, stamens and pistils!
Well, it seems the phones are off and running a little early this year! I have gotten some very interesting questions and samples lately. This is a soft scale on Magnolia that came in early in the week. I've also had several other insect samples, a question about flower structures, some winter weeds and lots of soil tests!
Here are some reminders for you of upcoming opportunities:
